Facility Update - June 8

As per Stage 2 of the Government of Alberta “Open for Summer” provincial reopening plan, we are pleased to share the following information regarding our phased reopening beginning June 10:

MacDonald Island Park Hours of Operation

Suncor Community Leisure Centre and Shell Place:

  • Monday to Friday: 5am to 10pm
  • Saturday/Sunday/Stat Holidays: 7am to 10pm

Syncrude Aquatic Centre:

  • Monday/Wednesday/Friday – 6am-9pm
  • Tuesday/Thursday – 8am-9pm
  • Saturday/Sunday – 9am-9pm

*Please note: Syncrude Aquatic Centre is currently open for lane swimming, adult steam room, adult sauna and adult whirlpool only. Leisure swimming (including family swimming, family whirlpool, lazy river, water slides, spray park and leisure pool) is scheduled to reopen on June 21. The health and safety of guests and staff is our top priority. While things may look a little different on reopening, we look forward to showing you the measures and tools we have put in place to help prevent the potential spread of COVID-19. The following protocols will support our efforts to maintain health and safety:

  • Guests who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, who have been in close contact with a case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days, or have travelled internationally in the past 14 days must stay home and isolate.
  • We have implemented a number of measures to assist our guests including directional arrows, signage, and physical distancing floor markers.
  • We ask guests to wash and sanitize hands before and after using any amenity.
  • Follow physical distancing – stay 2 metres a part at all times including in the parking lot.
  • Protective barriers have been installed at designated locations.
  • Wristbands are required and will be self-applied. Please remove and discard prior to leaving the facility.
  • All guests are asked to follow posted directional signage while inside the facility/amenity.
  • Masking and physical distancing must be maintained within all common areas (IE: concourse, change rooms)
  • Change room will be available with showers.
  • Spectator seating is open with limited capacity.
  • Some areas may have reduced capacity; please respect these capacity limits.

Note for Members: All memberships will remain on hold until August 31, 2021. All memberships will be reactivated on September 1, 2021. To reactivate your membership please contact Guest Services, and they will assist you with reactivating your annual, continuous, or group membership. What If I don’t want to reactivate my membership yet?

All memberships will remain on hold until August 31, 2021. All memberships will be reactivated on September 1, 2021 with the first payment for those choosing to wait on September 15, 2021.

Do I get a discount on my membership because some amenities are not available?

At this time we are not providing discounts on our memberships or facility passes, however members can put their membership on hold until August 31, 2021. All options regarding fees for memberships, facility passes, and day passes can be found here

Can I cancel my membership or get a refund?

If you have any questions or concerns regarding cancelling or receiving a refund please contact Guest Services at email.

Sport Amenities

Do I have to reserve my spot for Shinny?

Shinny will be available on a drop in basis as per pre-COVID process. Goalies will be able to sign in 1 hour prior, with players able to sign in 45 minutes in advance. Masks and physical distancing must be maintained at all times in common areas including hallways, dressing rooms etc. Schedule for shinny can be found on our Drop in Calendar

Do I have to reserve my spot for Sport Activities?

All Drop in Sports will be available based on amenity availability. Bookings do not need to be done in advance. Schedule for Drop in Sports can be found on our Drop in Calendar. Masks and physical distancing must be maintained at all times in common areas including hallways, change rooms etc. Court sports such as Badminton, Squash, & Raquetball can still be booked in advance at www.macdonaldisland.ca.

Will rental equipment be available?

Rental equipment will not be available at this time.

Syncrude Aquatic Centre

Can I book a lane in advance?

Lanes will be available for drop in only.

Will Sauna, Steam Room, & Adult hot tub be open?

These amenities will be open with reduced capacity to maintain physical distancing. We ask that members & guests respect the posted capacities.

Will the training pool be open?

The training pool will be open for drop in lane swim.

Will masks be required in the pool?

Masks will not be required while engaging in your activity. Masking and physical distancing is required outside of your activity area including all common areas such as change rooms, hallways, etc.

When can I access the change rooms?

Swimmers will only be able to access the facility/change rooms a maximum of 15 minutes before the start time of lesson or practice.

Legacy Dodge Fitness Centre

Do I need to pre-book my fitness spot?

The Legacy Dodge Fitness Centre & Running Track will be drop in only. Equipment has been spaced out with 3 metres distancing, and capacity has been reduced.

Is masking required while working out?

Masks will not be required while engaging in your activity. Masking and physical distancing is required outside of your activity area including all common areas such as change rooms, hallways, etc. 

Are fitness/dry changerooms available?

Dry change rooms will be available with reduced capacity. Please ensure to maintain physical distancing as well as wear your mask while in these areas. The sauna and steam rooms will also be available with reduced self-monitored capacity.

Under Stage 2, June 10:

  • Physical distancing of 3 metres must be maintained at all times
  • Masking is required in common areas
  • Participants are required to clean equipment prior to and after use with the hospital grade disinfectant that is provided
  • Change rooms are available with reduced capacity as posted
  • Sauna and steam room in change rooms are available with posted capacity limits in effect

Are cardiovascular machines available at the Legacy Dodge Fitness Centre?

Yes, all cardio equipment is available. Please maintain your 3 metres physical distancing.

Are the treadmills speeds capped?

No, there are no restrictions on treadmill speeds.

Is high intensity training permitted?

Yes, however you must remain properly physically distanced.

Can I use dumbbells or any other lifting equipment?

Yes, you can use any lifting equipment, always keeping 3 metres distance from others.

Can I share equipment or do circuits with a friend?

At this time sharing equipment or circuit training is prohibited.  A minimum of 3 metres physical distance between participants is required.

Can I use the running track to warm up before I head to the Legacy Dodge Fitness Centre?

Yes, you can use the running track.

Is the High Performance Training Centre (HPTC) open?

The HPTC is anticipated to reopen on June 21.

What is the maximum capacity at the Legacy Dodge Fitness Centre & Running Track?

Fitness Centre capacity is 80 participants while the Running Track capacity is 45 participants (25% capacity of fire code)
