Lane swim is offered when the 54m pool is opened. There will always be a minimum of 2 lanes opened at all times.

Bathing suits, swim caps, goggles can be purchased at guest services.

The HVAC system at the Syncrude Aquatic Centre is designed to balance the Aquatic Centre’s space humidity and temperature.  The parameters that are set allow for a safe and comfortable environment for both patrons and staff.  To manage the space, the HVAC units adjust accordingly to the inside environment as well the outside environment.

During times of extreme temperature and humidity outside, generally the summer heat waves in our region, this may bring the internal space above the parameters of temperature or humidity that allow a safe occupancy environment for the facility.   To remain open during these times, we have to manage the runtimes of the features of the leisure park to assist with the temperature and humidity control.  This is a common practice among indoor aquatic facilities. 

The Syncrude Aquatic Centre will be closed for annual maintenance from August 26 to September 22, 2024. The training pool will be closed from August 26 – October 7 for additional work. From September 23 – October 7 swimming lessons and aqua fitness will take place in other areas of the centre.

The annual closure allows critical maintenance work to take place to reduce unplanned maintenance closures throughout the year, as well as ensure functionality, efficiency and safety of all the systems required for operation. Aquatic centres require complex systems that need regular cleaning, maintenance and repair. These systems include:

• aquatic filtration system

• chemical injection(disinfection) system

• building and amenity structures

• heating & ventilation system

Annual maintenance ensures all these areas are fully functional and provide the highest level of efficiency, while also protecting the health and safety of our staff and guests.

Our team does a variety of work including draining all the amenities for inspection and deep cleaning, as well as deep cleaning, inspection and maintenance of the change rooms and pool deck.

Scheduled annual maintenance is based on the scope of work identified over the year prior to the annual maintenance closure, as well as any known lifecycle projects requiring completion.  The 2024 scope of work takes time to complete, along with draining and refilling the amenities and testing all systems prior to reopening to receive guests.

The training pool closure will be extended in 2024 to accommodate removal and replacement of the pool liner.

The fall season has been selected for the annual closure as usage is typically lower during this time period and the work can be completed after our summer programs end and before the fall programs begin.

The annual maintenance work requires the amenities to be drained for inspection, cleaning and repair. The process to drain, inspect, clean, repair, refill and then ensure the centre is ready to again receive guests takes a significant period of time. During this period, several systems are offline (like the filtration and mechanical air systems) and as such the amenities are closed until this work is completed.
