History

MacDonald Island Park has a long history, beginning in 1872 when John James MacDonald arrived in the area to work for Hudson’s Bay Company as the first known settler in Fort McMurray. Since then, the island has grown from a plot of land to a sports, events, leisure, culture and recreational hub that has become the heart of the community.
